Though the group was small in number, the fun was GIGANTIC at the Yoakum County Library in Plains on Wednesday, January 13, 2016. Those in attendance were Jadon and Nathan McAdams, Johan Neudorf, Penny Landry, and Ethan Moya.

The time together started with an overview of the calendar and included singing “Days of the Week.” The pledges to the United States and Texas flags were next, and then the group participated in the flannel story “There Was a Cold Lady Who Swallowed Some Snow.” As each child placed a piece of the story onto the flannel board, the Cold Lady would gobble them up! By the end, they had pieced together a snowman! The paperback book was the doorprize and was won by Ethan Moya.

Again the youngsters got involved with the action rhyme “The Snowboarder” and “The First Snowflake,” as well as the song “I’m a Friendly Snowman.” Animals who enjoy the snow were briefly mentioned before reading “Polar Babies.” Two books, “Snow” and “Big Snow,” both featured a little boy anticipating snowfall. Following the stories shared, the group watched a short clip of Curious George called “Snow Use.”

The Plains’ Storytime welcomes kids of all ages every Wednesday morning at 10 am during the regular school year. Next week, January 20, the Education and Outreach Coordinator for the Southern Ogallala Conservation District will be presenting a water conservation program to the group. Please attend this special event geared toward educating young children about the precious resource of water.
