Betty Joyce McWilliams Thackrey

Betty Joyce McWilliams Thackrey, 72, of Lubbock, formerly of Levelland, passed away on December 30, 2017, in Lubbock. Graveside services will be held on Saturday, January 6, 2018, at 10 am at the Terry County Cemetery in Brownfield, Texas, under the direction of George Price Funeral Home. Visitation will be open from 8 am to 5 pm on Thursday, January 4, and Friday, January 5, 2018, at George Price Funeral Home. Betty was born on March 17, 1945, to Howard Wilson Brown and Jaukaleta Perry Brown in Colorado City, Texas. She worked at South Plains College for 30 years and was most recently the secretary to the President. Her first position was secretary to one of the Deans, then later to a Vice President, working her way up. Betty married Ray McWilliams on March 9, 1962 in Brownfield, TX. He precedes her in death. She married her current husband, Al Thackrey, on May 5, 2007, in Plainview, TX. She is preceded in death by her parents; first husband Ray; brothers, Jim Brown of Sundown, TX; and Wayne Brown of Sundown, TX. She is survived by her husband, Al Thackrey of Lubbock, TX; son, Tony McWilliams of Lubbock, TX; son, Toby McWilliams (and wife Anna) of Dayton, Ohio; Step-daughters, Mary and Cathy Thackrey of Lubbock, TX; and grandchildren, Zachary and Joshua McWilliams of Dayton, Ohio (children of Toby and Anna).
