The April Teacher of the Month award was presented to Lucinda Olivarez at the BISD School Board monthly meeting.

Olivarez is a 2nd grade teacher at Oak Grove. She previously taught 3 year olds and Pre-K.

Amy Estrada, Oak Grove Principal says when you enter her classroom you feel a sense of safety and calmness. “Her classroom is set up with learning stations that encourage differentiation to meet the specific needs of her students”, according to Estrada.

According to Estrada, “She speaks to her students with respect and has high expectations for them. She is dedicated to reaching all of her students and has a way to make the most challenging day rewarding.”

Some things her peers had to say are, “Lucinda has always proved herself a kind and helpful person, going the extra mile for her students and her friends is second nature to her. Her students enjoy going to her class for cub time rotation. Lucinda goes above and beyond to ensure that her students are equipped with the proper knowledge, not only academically but also in life skills. She doesn’t stop when something is working well, she strives to make it the best and to always do right by her students. She’s a hard working and talented teacher. She deeply cares for each and every one of her students.

One teacher says she constantly sees the passion she has for teaching and reaching students by her attitude each day and the conversation she has with and about her students. “No matter what is going on around her in personal matters or school business she does not let it effect her classroom or students. She is a true role model.”

“Lucinda is a caring teacher and co-worker. She truly loves each and every one of her students and constantly strives to provide activities that meet each student at their level while pushing them on to the next level. She goes home and worries about and misses her students and thinks about activities that would be both engaging and academically challenging for her students. Students know how much Mrs. O cares about them.”

Congratulations Mrs. Olivarez!
