City Council Addresses a Short Agenda;Approves 2017 Holiday Schedule

The City Council met in regular session on Monday night, December 5, where they addressed a short agenda.

During the announcement portion of the meeting several council members offered their condolences to the families of Deloris Browning, Corky Black, and Robert Qualls who all recently passed away. Robert’s mom, Barbara Qualls, is a former City Council member.

City Manager Stan David went over the City of Denver City Investment Policy. The purpose of the policy is “to set forth the methods, means, and goals of financial investment and debt management operation for the City and to assist the City in achieving the maximum total investment yield of City funds in a prudent manner at all times”.

David took time to go over several areas of the policy so each Council member could better understand the policy. Upon the conclusion of his presentation each Council member along with the Mayor signed the document.

In the next item the Council unanimously approved the City of Denver City Holiday calendar for 2017. These Holidays will include: New Year’s Day, Monday, January 2 since January 1 falls on a Sunday this year; Good Friday, Friday, April 14; Memorial Day, Monday, May 29; Independence Day, Tuesday, July 4; Labor Day, Monday, September 4; Thanksgiving, Thursday and Friday, November 23-24; Christmas, Monday and Tuesday, December 25-26; and One Floating Holiday of the employee’s choice.

The Council also unanimously approved changing the first meeting in January from January 2 to Tuesday, January 3.

Upon a motion by Councilman Ronald Weir the Council unanimously approved to pay the bills that totaled $140,173.05 and directed their payment.

Council members Joan Breith, Ronald Weir, Robert Hanneman, Clinton Bowman, Mark Sherman, and Keith Mensch along with Mayor Tommy Hicks were all present at the meeting.

The next meeting will be held on Monday, December 19 at 7 pm in the City Hall chamber.
