Commissioners Court Meets March 6

The Yoakum County Commissioners Court met in regular session on Monday, March 6, where they addressed their weekly agenda.

In the first item on their agenda the Court unanimously approved to audit and settle all accounts against the County and direct their payment. A total of $192,201.10 was paid in county bills, which included $125,000 which went toward the demolition of the Civic Center building in Denver City. Also approved was $152,853.76 in hospital bills and other medically related bills.

The next item, a request from Jeanette Head of the Yoakum County Connection seeking funds was tabled at this time.

County Clerk Debbie Rushing requested approval for the renewal of annual copier maintenance agreement on two Canon copiers in her County Clerk’s office with Tascosa Office Machines. Her request was unanimously approved.

The consideration and to take appropriate action to a lease reclaimer was also unanimously approved.

Also unanimously approved was a 90 day burn ban in Yoakum County. The Commissioners, along with the Sheriff’s office, released the following burn ban notification: As of today, March 6, Yoakum County will be under a Burn Ban. If you are caught burning during the ban it will be punishable as a Class C Misdemeanor. This will be in effect for 90 days or until Commissioners Court deems it no longer necessary.

There was one road crossing permit approved from Sturat Energy to bore under County Road 155 in Precinct #3. The request was also unanimously approved on the recommendation from Precinct #3 Commissioner Tommy Box.

There was one request for the disposal of a computer related item, no line item transfers, and no Soil Conservation request.

Commissioner Ray Marion said work was progressing on schedule at the new Denver City Community Building. He also said final work on the demolition of the former Civic Center should be completed by the end of the week.

At the end of the meeting Rex Murphy with TxDOT met with the Commissioners notifying them of future road work on different highways within the county.

Commissioners Woody Lindsey, Ray Marion, Tommy Box and County Judge Jim Barron were all present at the meeting. Commissioner Tim Addison was not in attendance.

The next meeting will be held on Monday, March 13, at 10 am in the County Courthouse.
