Three Mustangs were named to the First Team All-District baseball squad while five more were named to the second team. In addition, sophomore Ferny Vegas was named as the District’s MVP Defensive player.

Braden McGary was named to the first team at the shortstop position, Irving Mijarez was first team third baseman, and Luis Rodriquez was first team pitcher.

Named to the second team was Ivan Villarreal at second base, Daven Blanco at first base, Mario Sanchez as a catcher, while Michael Garcia and Uriel Rodriquez were both named as second team outfielders.

Villarreal and Garcia are seniors, McGary, Mijarez, and L Rodriquez are all juniors, Vega is a sophomore, while Sanchez and U Rodriquez are both freshman.

McGary finished the year with a .360 batting average. He had 40 hits that included six homeruns, seven triples, and seven doubles. Blanco finished with a .356 average. He had 36 hits that included one homerun and nine doubles. Vega, known for his fielding, finished with a .275 average where he had 30 hits which included six doubles.

Mijarez had a .338 batting average. He finished with 23 hits that included four homeruns and two doubles. Villarreal final average was .274. He had 17 hits, three doubles, one triple, and one homerun. Luis Rodriquez, who was picked as a pitcher, finished the year with a 3.01 ERA. He had 76 strikeouts and issued 35 balls. In 14 games he allowed just 23 earned runs. From the batters’ box, where he spent most of the season as a DH, he finished with .410 batting average, that included three homeruns, one triple, 11 doubles and 43 hits.

Sanchez, who spent the entire season behind the plate, came up with nine hits and one double. He finished the season with a .180 average. Garcia finished with a .206 average, 14 hits and two doubles. And Uriel Rodriquez, who finished with a .268 average, had 19 hits, five doubles and two homeruns.

Isaias Morin (Jr. –Brownfield) was the district’s MVP, Bo Sims (Sr. Estacado) was the MVP pitcher, Tanner Marrow (Sr. – Levelland) and Johnny Gomez III (So. – Estacado) were the Offensive MVP, and Tristan VanZandt (So. – Levelland) was the Newcomer of the district.

Levelland had six players named to the first team, Estacado had four named to the first team and three to the second team, Brownfield had two named to the first team and one to the second team, Denver City had three named to the first team and five to the second team, Lamesa had three listed on the first team and five to the second team, and Seminole had two named to the second team.

The Mustangs finished with a 21-13-1 season record where they advanced to the Regional Semi-Finals where they lost to Godley in two straight games.
