The DCHS Debate team competed at the state meet during spring break competing against 61 other 3A teams on the campus of the University of Texas at Austin.

The teams of Robert Mendoza, Erin English, Marlow Davis and Jacee Billings were the two teams that represented Denver City once again giving up their spring break to compete in this state event.

This year both teams broke to the octofinals and were the only 3A School to accomplish this feat. Both teams lost in the octos, but the two teams they went against ended up 1st and 2nd in the state.

“I am super proud of these kids and amazed at the amount of time, energy and weekends they have given up to achieve this,” Coach Sonya Gore said.

The UIL state debate meet is one of the largest in the nation with the possibility of 64 teams in each division. This year the 3A division had 61 teams that were competing and both Denver City teams made it into the top 16.
