On Thursday, April 7, the cast and crew of The Elephant Man competed in the Area UIL One Act Play contest in Seminole. With their best performance up to date they will now advance on to the Regional round as one of the three teams that competed. The Regional will be held at Clyde High School on April 22.

“I am very proud of the performance they gave and also very proud to announce that Denver City will be advancing to the Regional contest in Clyde on April 22,” director Lisa Landry said. “We will be the 5th show to compete.”

Individual awards went to Kayla Martinez, Tommie Hicks, & Denisse Saenz as an ensemble Honorable Mention All Star Cast, Robert Mendoza & Taylor Dial received All Star Cast, and Marlow Davis took Best Actress.

“I am so excited that all of these kids were recognized for their performance but I must highlight Taylor Dial’s award,” Landry continued. “This is her first award in the 6 years she has been involved in OAP. I am so delighted she was recognized for the great talent she has brought to our plays since she was in 7th grade.

“It was a tough day of contest with amazing shows from around the Area. These students did a fantastic job of representing DC on and off the stage. Thank you to everyone for your support.”

The top two plays at the Regional meet will be advancing on to state in May. Last year the DCHS play was first runner up to the state meet.

Advancing with Denver City from the Area round will be Shallowater and Tulia.

Assisting Mrs. Landry is high school counselor Melisa Dorsett.
