The Fillies started their post season play on a positive note Tuesday night in Littlefield as they eased past a good Pampa Lady Harvester team 25-18, 25-17, 25-22.
The Fillies started strong and had the lead in each set except three times in the third set when Pampa held a slim 7-6 lead. The Fillies fought back and went on a 4-0 run to regain the lead at 10-7 only to see Pampa respond with their own 5-0 streak to go back up 12-10, the Fillies biggest deficit of the match.
At that point the two teams traded points and were tied at 13-13 and 14-14 before the Fillies started pulling away grabbing two and three point leads the remainder of the third set. With Denver City up 22-18 Pampa had their last comeback to cut the lead to 22-20. After Pampa saved one match point with a big kill, Macey Jordan responded with her own kill to send the Fillies on to the next round.
After trading points to start the match Jayleen Villarreal toed the line to give the Fillies some early breathing room. With the Fillies leading 3-2 Jayleen started with an ace that was followed by a Lexi Ivy block. A hitting error by Pampa upped the lead to 6-2, a four-point margin the Fillies held for the rest of the first set.
The Fillies got a fast start in set two jumping out to a 7-1 lead behind the serving of Marley Jordan that included three aces. Soon that lead ballooned to 15-5 and 20-9 before Pampa started chipping away cutting the once comfortable lead to 22-16. After a Coach Megan David time out, the Fillies responded behind kills from Holly Hemmeline and the serving of Lexi Ivy to close out the second set 25-17.
That set the stage for the back and forth third set.
Unofficially, Macey and Holly both had 10 kills, Lexi had five, and Kinsey Michaelson had one.
Jayleen and Marley both had three aces, Macey had two while Morgan Johnson and Holly both had one.
Defensively Lexi had three solo blocks and joined forces with Kinsey for three more.
The Fillies, who improved to 28-13, faced Andrews on Saturday at 1 pm on the campus of Lubbock Christian University.
The winner will move on to the next round to face the winner between district rival Levelland and Fabens.
