After dropping a heart breaking 5-set decision to Seminole on Saturday, the Fillies came back to dispose of Estacado in three sets on Tuesday.
Just like the first time the two longtime rivals played it was a back and forth affair with the Maidens. The Fillies won the first set 25-17 only to see Seminole come back to win set number two 25-19. And in a carbon copy of the first meeting the Fillies won set three 26-24. With their backs to wall the Maidens overcame a 13-8 deficit to tie things up at 17-17 and 18-18. The Fillies remained stuck on 18 while the visitors went on a 4-0 run to get some breathing room. The Fillies came back to cut the lead to 24-22, but a Fillie hitting error on set point gave the win to the Maidens.
In the all-important 5th set the Fillies fell behind early trailing 5-2 before a Seminole hitting error, Macey Jordan kill, and a Lexi Ivy block evened things up. The two teams were tied at 8-8 and 9-9 before Seminole went on a 4-0 run to gain the upper hand at 13-9. Holly Hemmeline ended the streak with a kill followed by two Maiden errors and another Holly kill sent the Fillies on their own 4-0 run to tie things up at 13-13. Seminole responded with still another kill and closed out the match on a Kinsey Michaelson block that fell back on the Fillie side.
Unofficially Macey finished with 19 kills, Holly had 11 and Lexi added 9.
In the Estacado match the Fillies jumped out in the first set making a statement they came to play. It took them less than an hour to record a 25-11, 25-7, 25-12 win.
The Fillies opened a 12-3 lead in the first set that soon grew to 16-6. Back to back kills by Marley Jordan made it 19-8 and a service winner by Macey gave the first set to the Fillies.
Set two was much the same as the Fillies used the serving of Jayleen Villarreal to jump out to a 15-3 lead. Kills by Lexi and Holly over the next 10 points gave the Fillies a 25-7 second set win.
The third set was much closer in the beginning before the Fillies started breaking away. Estacado actually had the lead two times early on and were tied nine times before the Fillies started pulling away at 10-10. Service winners by Marley and Jaylene along with some timely kills from Macey, Lexi, and Holly gave the Fillies some breathing room as the won 15 of the last 17 points in route to their 25-12 third set win.
Once again unofficially Macey and Holly both finished with 12 kills and Lexi had 10.
The Fillies will travel to Littlefield on Tuesday for the first round of post season play when they play Pampa, the second-place winner from District 1. Game time is set for 7:30 and will be the second game of a two-game format.
A win on Tuesday can pit the Fillies against either Monahans or Pecos in the second round.
