Behind the hot shooting of Cas Esmerado and a stingy second half defense, the Fillies opened district play with a 48-36 win over 4A number one state ranked Levelland. The Lady Lobos entered the game with a 21-1record with their only loss coming to Lubbock Cooper in the finals of the Caprock Christmas tournament.

The #8 ranked Fillies started fast jumping out to a 7-3 lead and were still up 9-6 at the end of the first quarter. A Dacey Gutierrez floater seconds into the second quarter gave the Fillies an 11-7 lead, but the Fillies suddenly went cold and were outscored 16-3 the rest of the quarter and went into halftime trailing 22-11.

The second half was all Fillies as Arielle Adams made her second 3-point basket to cut the lead to 22-14. Haylee Villarreal muscled her way under the basket and just like that the Fillies were on a 5-0 run that cut the Levelland lead to 22-19.
Holly Hemmeline followed with a short jumper to put the Fillies within one and Arielle followed with another 3-pointer to give the Fillies a 24-22 lead they never relinquished as they went on a 16-0 run. Levelland ended the run with a 3-point basket, but Hailey Henderson answered with her own 3-pointer from deep in the corner to give the Fillies a 33-25 lead heading into the final eight minutes of play.

It was one minute deep in the last quarter when Cas basically took over the scoring sizzling the net with four consecutive back to back three-point baskets with the last one coming with 4:19 left in the game that put the Fillies up 45-30 .
Going into a stall game the Fillies held the Lady Lobos to six points over the last four minutes with all those points coming in the last 1:25 of the game.

Cas paced the Fillies with 18 points and Arielle had 12. Also adding to the point total was Holly with five points, Dacey had four while Morgan Dial, Haylee Villarreal, and Haley Henderson all with three points. The Fillies were 11/23 from beyond the arch and 6/19 from inside the 3-point circle. Morgan and Holly were the assist leaders with three. Cas and Arielle were the leading rebounders with five each. Hailee and Holly both had four.

The Fillies only had four turnovers in the big win. The win upped the Fillies record to 17-3 to go along with their 1-0 district mark. The Fillies hosted Lamesa on Tuesday and then will hit the road on Friday with a trip to Seminole. The following week they will host Estacado on Tuesday and travel to Brownfield on Friday.
