Houses Galore at StoryTime Yoakum Co. Library in Plains

Yoakum County Library in Plains was excited to host a houseful of fun on Wednesday, May 3, 2017.

With a theme of various houses, the youngsters included Sadie, Tirzah, Payton, Tabitha, Selah, Kefira, Gabe, Case, Aspen, Brit, Elijah, and Abigale. After discussing the weather and calendar, the pledges to the American and Texas flags completed opening ceremonies.

A flannel rhyme called “House Mouse” encouraged the children to identify house colors to find the hidden mouse, while mimicking the squeaks of a mouse. The first kind of house that was discussed was a castle, using the book “The Kiss That Missed” by David Melling. A couple of rhymes called “Here Is a House” and “Home Sweet Home” were participated with smiles and hand motions. “Mouse Went Out to Get a Snack” was an imaginative counting book which kept the children on the lookout for a house cat.

The book “Max Cleans Up” by Rosemary Wells helped the group learn how to clean up their rooms, which was also the moral of the video clip “Berenstain Bears and the Messy Room.” All the mothers, grandmothers, and caregivers appreciated the friendly reminder, especially in anticipation of the upcoming Mother’s Day holiday.

The “Wave Goodbye” rhyme finished the literacy time. Before the group dispersed, a set of building blocks was given to a random participant (Sadie) to promote the upcoming Summer Reading Program theme: “Build a Better World: Read!”

The weekly StoryTime at the Yoakum County Library in Plains continues for the next two Wednesdays at 10 am. The final meeting for this school year will be on May 17. StoryTime is open to children of all ages, from birth up. Call the library at 456-8725 for more information.
