Lastnight in a special called Brownfield ISD school board meeting, two things were determined. The first item of business was to listen to presentation from Region 17 Education Service Center. The Presentation was about Region 17 helping in the process of BISD searching for a new school superintendent.

Executive director, Dr. Kyle Wargo and Associate Executive Director of Administration Services, Wayne Blount were both on hand last night to give the presentation of what Region 17 will help with.  Dr. Wargo made it clear that Region 17 does not receive funds from the school district for the search of a new superintendent. Dr. Wargo said that he would be running lead for search team. He will also have help with others on his staff. Mark Holcomb and Phil Warren, both field service agents and years of combined education service and leadership qualities, will be helping in the search and process.

After the board heard the presentation they went into closed session. During the closed session, the board interviewed candidates for the interim position.

The board came out of closed session, into regular session and took action on two items. The first was to vote on the interim superintendent. The school board unanimously voted for Kelly Baggett to be the interim superintendent. Mr. Baggett was a former superintendent at Levelland ISD. Mr. Baggett approximate start date at BISD is Monday, January 8th, 2018 and he will stay on as interim until the superintendent position is filled.

The second item of action taken was to consider Region 17 Education Service Center as the search partner for a new superintendent. The BISD board also voted unanimously for Region 17 ESC to help in the search process. The meeting was then adjourned. The next regular scheduled BISD board meeting will be Monday, January 8th, 2018 at 6:30pm.
