Plains, Texas- Graveside services for John Benjamin Ashburn, 96, of Plains, Texas will be held Thursday, June 14, 2018, at 10:00 A.M. in the Plains Cemetery in Plains, Texas with Rev. Patrick Hamilton officiating. Services will be under the direction of Ratliff Funeral Home of Denver City. He passed away Friday, June 8th in Lubbock, Texas.

Mr. Ashburn was born August 27, 1921, in Vaughn, New Mexico to George E. and Tommie E. Camp Ashburn. He served in the United States Army Air Corp during WW II from 1942 – 1946. John Benjamin and Wanda Verner were married December 27, 1947, in Meadow, Texas, they were married for 55 years. He was a member of the First Baptist Church where he served as Sunday School Teacher for over 60 years in Plains and Meadow, he was co-owner of Roberts/Ashburn Propane Company in Meadow for about 10 years, he moved to Plains in 1961. He was preceded in death by his wife, Wanda Ashburn in January 2003, a grandson, and two brothers.

He is survived by two sons, Stanley Ashburn and his wife, Shelia of Plains, and Brian Ashburn and his wife, Sharon of Lubbock; along with five grandchildren, Jeff Ashburn, Alison Robinson, Brad Ashburn, Heather Ashburn and Austin Ashburn; seven great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to the First Baptist Church of Plains, Texas.
