TownTalk was informed about 5 o’clock Thursday afternoon, via text from Wellman-Union Superintendent Aaron Waldrip, that Brownfield Coach Joseph Hood would be accepting the AD/Head football coaching job at Wellman-Union.

TownTalks Justin Cabe spoke with Coach Hood over the phone not long after the announcement. Coach Hood said, “I look forward to running my own program, working with Aaron and the rest of the Wildcat community.”

Coach Hood has been a coach in Brownfield for the past two years. He has also coached at Lamesa, Littlefield, Seagraves, Dalhart and Winters. As a volunteer assistant in Spade Coach Hood helped start a 6 man program. When asked what the biggest difference would be going from 11 man to 6 man Hood said, The number of kids on the field and the field dimensions.”

There is no official time line for Coach Hood’s first day at Wellman-Union. He told TownTalk that, “I would like to finish track with Darius (Brownfield high jumper), I feel like I owe that to him.”

Waldrip said, “We would like to formalize all the details in the next week or two.”

Coach Hood would also like to thank the community of Brownfield and BISD for the support over the last two year.

TownTalk would like to congratulate Coach Hood and his family on his new position and we look forward to working with him in the future.
