Margaret Hartman’s home-going was May 17, 2018.  She lived a very full 96 years and will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Services will be held at 10 am, Tuesday, May 22, 2018, at Plains First Baptist Church with Rev. Chris Seaton officiating. Burial will follow in Plains Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5 to 6:30 pm on Monday, May 21, 2018, at Brownfield Funeral Home. Online condolences may be left at brownfieldfuneralhome.com. Margaret was born in Lubbock on September 21, 1921, to Clay and Mary (Gill) Bevers. Growing up on a farm in the Foster Community, Margaret learned about hard work and perseverance at an early age. She graduated from Wellman High School and was enrolled at Texas Tech when a handsome farmer convinced her to change her plans and become his wife. She eloped and married Royce Hartman in Portales, NM on September 10, 1941. Not only did Margaret work the farm alongside Royce, she also helped support her young growing family by working at the Wellman School cafeteria. She was active in the State Line Home Demonstration Club and enjoyed growing flowers and working in her yard. Animals always seemed to be drawn to Margaret and she especially loved her cat, Sparky! She was a member of Abundant Harvest Community Church. Royce and Margaret raised their family in Wellman, Plains, and Denver City, then moved to Brownfield in 1988. Margaret supported her husband through his battle with ALS disease and was by his side until his passing in 1998. Margaret’s unshakeable faith and active prayer life was an inspiration to her family and friends. She and Royce passed on to their children and grandchildren a heritage of faith in God and the importance of a strong work ethic. Margaret was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Royce; a sister and five brothers; and her grandson, Lavon Roy Welch. She is survived by her children: daughter Peggy Welch and husband Kent of Gordon, son Jerry Hartman of Plains and Ann Hartman of Plains, son Dicky Hartman and wife Kathy of Post; 8 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; and a faithful companion, Sparky the cat. Her family will greatly miss her sharp mind, quick wit, big smile and delicious chocolate pies, but most of all they will miss her prayers on their behalf! They would like to express their deep gratitude to Tammey, Merlene, Bertha, and Olga for their many years of faithful service and tender caregiving to Margaret.
