PLAINS SPORTS: Robert Hernandez named Athletic Director/Head Football Coach

Plains ISD is excited to announce the lone finalist for the AD/ Head Football Coach position Robert Hernandez.

Hernandez will be will be recommend to the Plains ISD Board of Trustees on Thursday, June 2.

Coach Hernandez is currently the defensive coordinator and head boys track coach in Stamford where they have been area champs the last two seasons. Before that he was the offensive coordinator and head boys basketball coach and head golf coach.

While at Iraan, they were in the playoffs all four years in football. They advanced to area and the regional finals in basketball, and had regional and state playoff appearances in golf. He has 10 years of head coaching and athletic director experience. Coach Hernandez grew up in Sterling City and is a graduate of Texas Tech University. He is married to Tina and they have four sons: Zachary who is coaching in San Saba, Zane, who is a recent graduate for Angelo State University where he played football. And there is also Zeth, who is a current student at ASU.

“Coach Hernandez will bring positive energy with a focus on hard work to our athletic programs,” stated a press release from Plains ISD. “The Cowboy and Cowgirl athletic programs are rich in tradition, and we believe we have found the ideal candidate that will build a bridge between the successes of the past, and establish goals and set the bar high for accomplishments in the future. Getting the right person who is the right fit for Plains ISD was key in our search. “

After the June 2 board meeting, Hernandez will go to work by meeting the athletes, setting up summer plans and leading the Cowboy and Cowgirl Athletic Program.

There will be a meet and greet 3 p.m. June 2 in the Commons.
