High school basketball has come and gone, however, we still have plenty of college hoops watch. This weekend we learned that the Texas Tech Red Raiders earned the third seed in the East Regional of the Big Dance, the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament! The South Plains College Texans also have reached the National Junior College Athletic Association National Men’s Basketball Tournament and all roads in the NJCAA lead to Hutchinson Kansas.
Now if you looking for women’s basketball, don’t fret, because the Lubbock Christian University Lady Chaps have earned themselves a spot in the NCAA Div. II Elite Eight by winning over the West Texas A&M Lady Buffs in the South Central Region Championship game 56-53. This win gave the Lady Chaps a 50 home game winning streak. The Lady Chaps will travel up to Sioux Falls S.D. to begin play on Monday, March 19th. Time and opponent are TBA.
The Red Raiders will begin their NCAA Tourny run as the third seed in the East Regional. Tech’s first game will match up with another Texas school from the southeast. Being the third seed Tech will tipoff against Stephen F. Austin in Dallas on Thursday, March 15th at 6:27 pm central time. The last time that Tech entered the NCAA Tourney as a third seed was in 1996 tournament when the Raiders won the Southwest Conference and posted a 28-1 record.

The SPC Texans will faceoff with Highland Community College out of Freeport Illinois. When asked to Texans coach Steve Green about Highland, he said, “I’ve never played them, I don’t know anything about them, but we will.” This is the second year in a row that the Texans have made it to Hutchinson Kansas for the NJCAA Men’s National Basketball Tournament. SPC comes in with a lot of experience, however, they had to fight and claw their way to this point. The Texans will tipoff against Highland at 7:30 pm on Monday, March 19th.
