Ruby “Imogene” (Barry) Deaton

Denver City- Funeral services for Ruby (Imogene) Deaton, 92, of Denver City, Texas, will be held on Friday, August 25, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Denver City, with Rev. Kyle Streun officiating. Burial will follow in Denver City Memorial Park. Services will be under the direction of Ratliff Funeral Home of Denver City.

Mrs. Deaton passed away on Tuesday, August 22, 2017 in Denver City after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s. She was born on May 17, 1925 in Thalia, TX to U.O. Barry and Roena Barry. She married Joe C, Deaton on November 22, 1942 in Lovington, NM.

Mr. & Mrs. Deaton began their residency in Denver City in 1960 until they retired in 1983. While in Denver City, Mrs. Deaton was employed with Dr. William Grubbs for over 20 years. She was a devoted attendee and Sunday School Teacher at First Baptist Church. In 1983, they retired and relocated permanently to their vacation home in Kingsland, TX. There they continued their devotion to the Lord while serving in any capacity called upon them at Bluebonnet Hills Baptist Church. Mr. & Mrs. Deaton both often stated that the best years of their lives were while they resided in Kingsland. In 1999, Mr. & Mrs. Deaton moved back to Denver City to be closer to family and First Baptist Church which they had loved for so many years prior to retirement.

Imogene Deaton was preceded in death by her husband; Joe C. Deaton, two children; Bobby Jo and Billy Gene, sons-in-law Doug Brown and Von Dee Durham and daughter-in-law Dana Deaton. Two grandchildren; Sheila Brown, Charles Lumpkin, parents; U. O. Barry and Roena Barry, 5 brothers and 2 sisters.

She is survived by four children; Linda Brown of Ruidoso, NM, Joe Deaton Jr and wife Carla of Kermit, TX, Janie McPherson and husband Michael of Denver City, TX, and Rodney Deaton and wife Terry of Denver City, TX; 16 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; two sisters and one brother; Valerie Smith of Hobbs, NM, Mary Rose of Chickasha, OK, and Eugene Barry of Sundown, TX.

Visitation will be from 6-7:30 Thursday evening in Ratliff Funeral Home Chapel in Denver City, TX. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to First Baptist Church of Denver City.
