Service for Sarah Jane Field will be held at 10 am Monday, May 28, 2018, at First United Methodist Church of Plains, TX with Pastor Rick Doyle and Pastor Wesley Holland officiating. Burial will follow at Field Ranch Cemetery in Lea County, New Mexico under the direction of Brownfield Funeral Home.

Sarah Jane Field was born in Tahoka, Texas at the home of her grandparents, W.T. and Grace Clinton, on January 29, 1926. Her parents, Casey and Sit Jones, lived in Muleshoe at that time but came to Tahoka for the birth of their first child. Sarah Jane attended school in Tahoka through junior high. Her family moved to Plains in 1939. She attended school in Plains where she graduated from high school.

She married Robert K. Field “Bobbie” on April 2, 1944, in Santa Rosa, New Mexico. They made their first home on a ranch near Yeso, New Mexico complete with a large wood burning stove. They soon moved to Bronco which became their permanent home. They had two children- daughter, Sarah K., and son, Robert.

In the following years, Bobbie became active in the registered Hereford business. Many customers visited 07 Ranch and bought bulls. Sarah supported this effort cooking wonderful meals for these customers. She became known among those folks as the lady who cooked delicious fried steak and gravy and the “special” breakfast butter roll.

In 1988, Sarah Jane married Homer Shelton in Tatum where they lived for several years before moving back to Bronco. She gained two sons, Robert and wife Jane; Jerry and wife Beverly; and daughter, Marcella.

She was a life-long member of Plains Methodist Church and church choir. She also enjoyed membership since 1946 in the TSA Mo Ga Study Club.

She was preceded in death by husband, Bobbie (1984), son, Robert (1988), father, Casey (1987), mother, Sit (1997), sister, Grace (1984), and brother, R.B. (2018). She is survived by her daughter, Sarah K. Burrus (Tommy), daughter-in-law, Beverly Shelton, stepdaughter, Marcella Dinnine (Gregory), grandchildren, Sally Doherty (Joe), Megan Field, Clint Burrus (Katie), Andrea and David Shelton, Greg Shelton (Mary Beth), Kelly McCanlies (Johnny), Derek Dinnine, and numerous great-grandchildren.
