Sharon Ruth SmithMemorial services for Sharon Ruth Smith, 69, will be held Sunday, August 14, 2016 at 2:00 PM in the First United Methodist Church in Denver City with Reverend John McClean officiating.  Services will be under the direction of Ratliff Funeral Home of Denver City.  She entered Heaven August 10, 2016.

Sharon was born November 19, 1946 in Clovis, NM to Joe R. and Wanda Todd Smith.  She attended first grade in Clovis, but she and her family moved to Denver City, TX in 1954 and the rest of her public schooling took place there.  She attended South Plains College after graduating from Denver City High School.

Sharon worked for many years in the fabric department of the Sprouse Ritz store in Denver City.  When the store closed, she worked at Dale’s Grocery.  She also sold AVON for many years.

Sharon learned to sew, crochet and embroidery from her Aunt Ruth and from her mother.  She made and gave away many afghans and cross stitch pictures.  Two of her cross stitches won Blue Ribbons at area art shows.

Although Sharon never married, she loved her nieces and nephews as if they were her own, and when they had children, she was as proud of them as if they were her grandchildren.

She was a caregiver.  She moved back into her childhood home when her father was struck with cancer in the mid 1990’s, and after his death, she remained with her mother, who was in the early stages of Alzheimer’s.  When this disease made it necessary to put her mother in the nursing home, Sharon became depressed, feeling like she had failed, but the addition of a puppy and a kitten, “My Girls”, gave her life purpose again, and soon she was smiling again.

Sharon is survived by her sister, Connie Webb of Denver City, her nephew, Justin Webb of Denver City, her niece, Jennifer Lee and husband David of Houston, her nephew Jared Webb and wife Denise of Houston, seven great nieces and nephews, Darian and Nik Lee, Kory Farquhar, Tanner Crowson, Gracie, Julianna and Joelle Webb by “her Girls”, Lady and Baby, and by numerous friends.  She will be greatly missed.

Memorials can be made to the First United Methodist Church Stained Glass Window Fund.
