LEVELLAND — With just two rodeos remaining in the 2017-2018 season, the South Plains College men’s and women’s rodeo teams will return to the arena April 12-14 in Big Spring at the Howard College Rodeo.

The Lady Texans enter week eight atop the leaderboards in the Southwest Region with 1,566 points, while Tarleton State is second with 1,419 points. Texas Tech remains in contention with 1,218 points, and Odessa College is currently fourth with 1,158 points. The Texans currently sit in sixth in the regional standings with 1,290 points and will look to add to their season total this weekend.

South Plains lassoed a pair of event titles a week ago in Snyder at the Western Texas College Rodeo as Chet Boren won the steer wrestling event and Jenna Dallyn took first in goat tying. Boren turned in to the top time in the long round with a 4.7 before clocking a 5.0 in the finals to end the weekend with a 9.7 average and 170 points.

Boren, who has tallied 705 points to date and is currently second in the men’s all-around standings, closed the gap on Clarendon’s Tegan Smith who sits in first with 975 points with two rodeos remaining. The top two point-getters in the Southwest region will advance to the College Finals National Rodeo in Casper, Wyoming in June.

The Lady Texans added 160 points to their region-leading point total in Snyder thanks to sophomore Jenna Dallyn’s first-place overall finish in goat tying.  Dallyn ran the second-fastest time with a 7.5 in the long round, which she topped with a 7.1 in the finals, capturing the event title with a 14.6 average. Dallyn is now tied for the region lead in goat tying with Tarleton State’s Baili Collins, each of whom has acquired 655 points to date.

Following the trip to Big Spring, South Plains will close out the season in Stephenville at the Tarleton State University Rodeo April 19-21.
