In the first district games for girls basketball, all of the TownTalk Sports Family teams won with exception of two. As Friday had rolled around it was time to begin a new season of basketball. District play began for most girls teams in the state of Texas and there was good showing in our area.

The 8th ranked Denver City Fillies took on the #1 ranked Levelland Lady Lobos. The Fillies came away with a win 48-36, upsetting the Lady Lobos and starting district 1-0. Brownfield Lady Cubs took a trip over to Lamesa and came home empty handed losing to the Lady Tors 36-23, beginning their district season 0-1.

We move to our 2A schools where the Seagraves Lady Eagles topped the Morton Maidens by two points, 38-36 giving them a 1-0 district start. Plains Cowgirls hosted Tahoka, and the Lady Bulldogs were just too much for the Cowgirls losing 52-42. The Lady Bulldogs start their district 1-0, while Plains begins 0-1.

In class 1A, all three of our featured teams won. The Meadow Lady Broncos had a slow start against Wilson, but opened up some major scoring late in the game coming away with 56-13 win. In Ropes, this was a matchup of two top 25 teams where the sixth ranked Lady Eagles took on the fourteenth ranked New Home Lady Leopards. The Lady Eagle came up big in this one with a 48-22 win over New Home. The Lady Cats of Wellman-Union traveled to highway 84 to play Southland.  The Lady Cats had a 36-0 lead at halftime and slowed up in the second half scoring only 14 points, winning 50-17. All three Meadow, Ropes and Wellman-Union have started district 1-0.

Here are the latest ranking for our area teams. In girls basketball, in Class 4A the Denver City Fillies moved up from #8 to #4, the Ropes Lady Eagles stayed at #6. In boys basketball, Class 5A El Paso Burges stayed at #9, and in Class 1A, the Meadow Broncos dropped a spot to #14, where as the Rope Eagles moved up one to #24.
