On Wednesday, February 7, 2018, the Yoakum County Library in Plains cooperated with the Yoakum County Sheriff’s Department and the Texas Department of Public Safety to host a safety program. We are grateful for their service to our community as well as the opportunity to connect with the children.

The youngsters listened to the reading of “How Do Dinosaurs Stay Safe?” and then enthusiastically welcomed the peace officers. The gentlemen included Trooper Tyson, Trooper Cragg, Deputy Martinez, Chief Deputy Whitfield, and Sheriff Bryant. A short presentation was given to the children focused on emergencies and dialing 9-1-1, as well as discussing what roles the local officers play.

The excitement continued by seeing the inside of the deputy and trooper vehicles! Those in attendance were Saige, Jed, Ben, Brit, Rhea, Bibi, Tucker, Knox, and Lathe. As the children departed from their new heroes with all smiles, each attendee was given a bag of goodies with stickers.

Family StoryTime at Yoakum County Library Plains meets every Wednesday at 10 am during the regular school year. Next week on Valentine’s Day, the group will enjoy a love-themed party. Participants are asked to bring about a dozen valentine cards addressed to “Friend” for bags to other attendees.
