Can you remember the last time the Lady Cubs were state ranked? Well the wait is over because the Lady Cubs have made it clear they will be a force to be reckoned with for a while. The Lady Cubs basketball program has been under head Coach Michelle Wyatt for three years now. Coach Wyatt came to Brownfield as an Assistant Coach in 2015 from South Plains College before taking over the program in 2017. After two years of playing in one of the toughest districts in the state of Texas without a playoff appearance the Lady Cubs are currently tied for first in the district with the Fillies of Shallowater.
The Lady Cubs start five sophomores each night; Guard Gabi Fields, Guard Lindsey Herrera, Guard Dabria Blackwell, and Twin Posts Tia and Deja Johnson. Of course a team is not only starters as the non-starters have contributed in big wins this season. They are senior Morgan Silva, sophomore Ashley Ramirez and freshman Raelee Garza. These eight girls are now 20-2 on the season and 4-0 in district play.
This Friday the Lady Cubs will face the undefeated 24-0 Fillies in Shallowater for the district lead. This is by far their most important game of the season so far. The Lady Cubs will face #1 Shallowater on Friday, Abernathy on Tuesday and #4 Idalou next Friday to finish the first half of district play. If you have not been out to watch these girls make sure to come see them represent Brownfield as they continue their historic season.
