Every year on the Farm Tour an Outstanding Young Farmer is announced.
The recipient for 2016 is Aaron Martin.
Attendee’s were able to watch a video put together by some Grad students of the Ag Communication Department at Texas Tech University.
Aaron said in his video he always remembers being on the farm, driving a tractor or checking irrigations systems. He also states the he never wanted to do anything else.
Aaron’s dad, and his grandfather were also farmers and he stated that he always wanted to be like them.
Aaron farms with his dad. Some of the crops that they currently produce are cotton, peanuts, watermelons and wheat.
They use rainwater harvesting to help water their crops. He has seen technology change over the years. He can use his cell phone to start/stop pivots now. He says “it is all for the better.”
Aaron is married to Lisa Martin and they have two children.
Lisa did not grow up in a farming family but loves that she is now getting to experience it. She said that Aaron “has been a good leader for their family”.
