Yo, ho, ho! What an energetic day at the Yoakum County Library in Plains on Wednesday, May 11, 2016! The youngsters bounced and bounded their way through the calendar discussion as well as the “Days of the Week” song. The children sweetly recited the pledges to the flags, followed by a couple of more loud songs: “Five Little Hot Dogs” and “Zoom Zoom Zoom.” An attempt to incorporate a thematic musical book from YouTube (“Port Side Pirates”) failed so the favorite song “Baby Shark” was substituted.

Those in attendance were Jordy Bell, Nathan McAdams, Ivan & Isaak Garza, Ethan Moya, Ian DelaRosa, Ethan Garcia, Nataly Cerritos, and Luis Gandara. The group settled down for the pirate-themed reading of “Treasure” by Suzanne Bloom and also “The Pirate Jamboree” by Mark Teague. Following the stories, the children used chalk to make their own Jolly Roger, aka pirate flag, on black construction paper. Then a portion of Leap Frog’s “Numbers Ahoy” short video was shown to the flag-waving crowd. The routine rhyme of “Wave Goodbye” completed the weekly session.

Next week, Wednesday, May 18, will be the final StoryTime of this school year at the Yoakum County Library in Plains. All ages of children and their caregivers are welcome to join the group at 10AM.
