Alton “Pete” Pettiet

Alton (Pete) Pettiet passed away on June 18, 2021 at the age of 87. Pete was born on March 18, 1934 in Shallowter, Texas to Clifford and Ruby Pettiet. He moved to Ropesville in 1942 and graduated from Ropes High School in 1951. He married his high school sweetheart, Charleen Armstrong, on June 6, 1954 at First Baptist Church of Ropesville. They were married for 66 years until her death on April 20, 2021.

Pete can best be described as a man who let his light shine in such a way that he glorified his Heavenly Father in all he did. He loved the Lord as reflected by his kindness, gentleness and concern for people. He loved his family and was faithful to his wife, was a loving father, PawPaw and brother. He loved his church family and served as a deacon for over 60 years. He loved the Ropesville community having served as Mayor and City Councilman, and the Ropesville Cemetery Association. He loved South Plains College and served on the Board of Regents for 32 years. He enjoyed serving meals to students at the Baptist Student Ministry at SPC for many years. He loved talking to his friends and playing dominoes with his buddies.

Pete worked as a farmer, fertilizer salesman and was a Germania Insurance Agent for 31 years.

Pete is survived by his daughter, Cliffa Herron (Grady) of Brownfield, Texas; his son Bradley Pettiet (Karon) of Lubbock, Texas; five grandchildren, Micah Riddle (Curtis) of Dallas, Texas, Tyler Herron of Austin, Texas, Lauren Thacker (Kevin) of SE Asia, Jordan Hickner (Brian) of Great Falls, Montana and Emily Stabeno (Kadon) of Williamsburg, Virginia; five great grandchildren, Regan Riddle Nytlie Herron, Rhett Riddle, Nora Hickner and Riley Thacker. Also survived by sisters Noma Lee Evans of Lubbock, Sue Humble of Snyder and brother Roger Pettiet of Shallowater.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Charleen, parents Clifford and Ruby Pettiet, great-grandaughter, Karsyn Lee Thacker, sisters Lois Wynn and Pat Littrell.

Visitation will be Monday, June 21 from 5:00 – 7:00 pm at the Venue at Combest Family Funeral Home, 2210 Broadway, Lubbock, Texas. Services will be Tuesday, June 22, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Ropesville with burial to follow at the Ropesville Cemetery.
