Alton Wayne “Al” Scoggins, 85, devoted husband, daddy, and grampy, passed from this life January 14, 2017 in Denver City, Texas.

A Celebration of Life service will be held Saturday, April 1, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. in the Stanton Community Center, 301 St. Theresa Street, Stanton, Texas. An interment service for Mr. and Mrs. Alton Wayne Scoggins will be Saturday, May 27, 2017, at 12:00 p.m. at the Golden Gate National Cemetery in San Francisco, California.

Al was born January 11, 1932 in Hawley, Texas to Archie Marion Scoggins and Johnnie Boiles Scoggins. Alton graduated from Midland High School in 1951. He was a devoted husband to Velma Dean “Corky” Scoggins for 42 years. She preceded him in death August 1, 1998. Al and Corky began their life together in Midland, where Al started his career working as a roustabout in the West Texas oilfields for Honolulu Oil. Alton also served as a member of the National Guard for four years. He was soon drafted into the United States Navy and served after the Korean War. He was stationed in San Francisco. After completing his tour of duty in the Navy, Al and Corky returned to Midland. He returned to work for Honolulu Oil, which later became known as Amoco Oil and presently, BP Oil. Al retired from Amoco in 1985. After retirement, he continued to work odd jobs and help support his family. Al is preceded in death by his first born son, Danny Wayne Scoggins, who died at birth. Danny was born August 6, 1957 in San Francisco. Al and Corky will be laid to rest at the Golden Gate National Cemetery next to Danny Wayne.

Al is also preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, William Scoggins and Edward Scoggins; and his sister, Dorothy Mazack.

He is survived by his daughter, Fredia Kay Scoggins of Odessa; two sons, Lance Scoggins and wife Lisa of Azle and Brad Scoggins and wife Ida of Odessa; six grandchildren and their spouses; four great-grandchildren; and several step-grand and great-grandchildren.
