Annual Farm Tour scheduled for September 16

by admin

The Annual Farm Tour is scheduled for Thursday, September 16. This annual event will take you on a tour of Terry County like you have never seen it before. This year, the focus is on the sites of some of the early schools in Terry County. There were a bunch! So join in as we “Celebrate Terry County Schools!”

The Tour will start at the Terry County Show Barn off 14th Street, across from the Terry County Cemetery. Donuts and coffee will be available at 8:15 a.m., with buses loading at 9 a.m. Tickets are free for the tour and that includes the meal. If you do not take the tour, meal tickets are $13.

While traveling the countryside, you will also see some pretty darn good crops, thanks to the rain we have received. One stop will be at a playa lake area where we will hear about the value of the playas and how they help recharge the Ogallala Aquifer.

Terry County Livestock Association will be providing cold drinks at the stop at the playa.

Upon arrival back at the Terry County Show Barn, the West Texas Young Farmers will be providing a delicious lunch.

The highlight of the day is the naming of Terry County’s Outstanding Farm Family and the Outstanding Young Farmer.

This year, the Terry County Soil and Water Conservation District is asking for your nominations for these two awards. The criteria follows. You can nominate by messaging TownTalk on their Facebook page or by texting or calling Katie Jo Day at 806.585.6357. Nominations are still being taken, but hurry and get your nominations in!
