Back to School Bash

by admin

The South Plains Community Action Association and Terry County’s Back to School Committee are announcing their Annual Back to School Bash event.

This event will be held on Friday, August 13, from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. in Coleman Park. Like last year, this year’s event will be a drive through event.

Basic school supplies will be provided to children living in Terry County. Applications may be filled out in advance at the SPCAA Service Center, located at 111 North D Street in Brownfield. You may register the day of the event, but that will slow the process down considerably.

There are no income or any other type of qualifications to register. Only that you live in Terry County and have students going to school in Terry County.

COVID-19 Vaccines will be available for 12 – 18 year olds. This will be the Pfizer vaccine.

There will be at least 15 vendors on hand with bags of information and other goodies. These include Terry County Dental, APPHD, FirstCare, Medicaid, and many others.

The South Plains Food Bank will also be on hand to give out boxes of food to participating families.

Information will also be available from Workforce Solutions South Plains on the WIOA Program, which offers assistance with tuition, books, fees, uniforms, tools, and fuel.

School supplies have been purchased for around 1,000 students.

If you would like to make a donation to help with this event, make checks to Terry County Christian Association. This is a 501c, with Pastor Gerald Baldwin, of Abundant Harvest, as leader.

Monica Warren is the Service Specialist at Community Action who works so hard to put all this together each year. She stated, “Years ago, my kids would always want to buy more school supplies than they needed. They told me there were so many kids who came to school without anything, and they wanted to help. So, I got to thinking about how we could be a help to those in need.”

This event always brings out lots of parents and kiddos. “I get excited about doing this every year,” stated Monica. “I just think we are bringing something special to families to help them get ready for school.”

Don’t miss out on this great event! For more information, contact Monica Warren at 806.637.3712.
