Betty Lee Landes (December 15, 1925 – December 16, 2018)

Betty Lee Landes, 93, of Andrews passed away on Sunday, December 16, 2018, in Andrews.

Family and friends will gather to celebrate her life at 2:00 PM Tuesday, December 18, 2018, at the First Baptist Church, 201 NE 2nd Street, in Andrews with Pastor Brant O’Connor officiating. Graveside services will be at 1:00 PM Wednesday, December 19, 2018, at the Clairette Cemetery in Clairette, Texas. The family will receive friends from 6 – 8 PM on Monday at McNett Funeral Home in Andrews TX.

Betty was born on in Clairette, Texas to Homer Pelem Lee and Jessie Myrtle Johnson Lee. She was raised in Clairette and graduated from Alexander High School in 1942. She married Lloyd Bythel “Bill” Landes on June 23, 1946, in Stephenville. They lived in Dublin, Olney, and moved to Denver City in 1949. While in Denver City, she worked at Yoakum County State Bank, C.R. Anthony’s, a furniture store, and sewed for the public. But most of all, she was a loving and supportive wife, mother, and homemaker to her husband and her two children. She was loved by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and she was known to them as “Mammy”. They moved to Comanche in 1992, and Bill preceded her in death on June 16, 1993. She moved to Andrews in 1994 to be closer to her daughter. While in Andrews, she was a member of the First Baptist Church, where she was involved in the Victory Singers and the Adult 1 “Gleaners” Sunday School Class. Her faith, the church, and her family are what she lived for every day. She loved to have fun and always provided the laugh for everyone. She was spunky, sassy, and liked to give everyone a hard time. She enjoyed traveling and playing games, especially “42”.

She was preceded in death by her parents, son, Gary B. Landes on August 22, 2012, and 4 siblings, Jimmie Lee, Bruce Lee, H.P. Lee, Jr., and Billie Johnson.

Betty is survived by her daughter, Cindy Porter, and husband, Denny, of Andrews; daughter in law, Becky Landes of Hot Springs, Arkansas; 5 grandchildren, Trae Porter and wife, Angela, of Midland; Judd Porter and wife, Cobi, of Andrews; Candace Clark and husband, TO, of Andrews; Shannon Landes of Carrollton; and Will Landes and wife, Courtney, of Fort Worth; 11 great-grandchildren, Averee and Tyler Porter, Carson, Claire, Ainslee, and Calaway Porter, Tucker, Raleigh, and Landes Clark, and Martin and Isabelle Landes.

Memorials may be sent to the First Baptist Church in Andrews or the Clairette Cemetery Association.
