Emails have been received lately by some local citizens purporting to be from the City of Brownfield.
The City of Brownfield issued this statement, “The City of Brownfield has received several inquiries about the different calls, emails, and texts citizens are receiving concerning their utility payments. The City of Brownfield will not email, call, or text you requesting payment. We will not ask for your credit card payment by phone as we offer multiple options of ways to pay. If there is a circumstance where we call you regarding your utility account, please remember we already have the information we need of your on your account, we will not ask for any of your personal information. Any reports of a scam that we are notified about get reported to the Police Department. If you feel uncomfortable with the with contact you have received regarding your utility bill we ask that you call City Hall for clarification before you give out any information. We do not utilize third party telephone services so any call from the City of Brownfield should come from our number 806-637-4547.
Citizens are urged to be especially wary of “look alike” emails.
Don’t open anything of which you are unsure.
Give the City a call if you receive anything suspicious.
