(Perryton)-  On Tuesday, oil and gas businessman Richard Beyea officially announced his candidacy for Texas House District 88.

Located in the heart of the Texas Panhandle, Texas House District 88 encompasses seventeen different counties and represents over 160,000 residents.

Beyea said, “I’ve been a conservative my entire life. The same principles that shape this great party are the same principles that have shaped my life. I’m running because I believe the citizens of this district deserve honest, accountable, and accessible leadership that will make sure their voices are heard. Serving as the next Representative for House District 88 would be an incredible privilege.”

Beyea, a 30-year resident of Texas, received a degree in Geological Engineering from the University of Arizona in 1978. He initially began his career in the oil and gas industry as an employee of Schlumberger Well Services in the late 1970s, before ultimately venturing out to start his own company, Remnant Energy, Inc.

While his career has been predominately anchored in the oil and gas industry, Beyea has demonstrated a lifelong passion for education. Over the years, he has volunteered his time by teaching at a local at-risk school and at the Panhandle Energy Institute, where he assisted in a teacher education program. Beyea served 6 years as a trustee on the Perryton Independent School Board, where he continued his passion for education and classroom innovation. He also served 3 years on the Perryton Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, where he sought to increase economic development and business growth in the Panhandle. Beyea is a long-time member of the Amarillo section of the Society of Petroleum Engineers and the Panhandle Producers and Royalty Association. He is a registered professional engineer.

Richard Beyea and his wife Judy have three children- Owen, Lauren, and Rebekah. They attend First United Methodist Church in Perryton, where Richard serves as a Sunday School teacher.

The Republican Primary Election for Texas House District 88 will take place on Tuesday, March 6, 2018.
