The BHS Athletic Banquet was held on Tuesday evening, May 11, and Brownfield’s best were recognized by the coaches.
The top award of the evening is always Mr. and Miss Cub. This year, those honors went to Abcde Garcia and Zavier Garcia. Both were multi-sport athletes. Abcede participated in volleyball and softball, while Zavy participated in football, track and baseball. Both were post season participants in their sports. They will definitely be missed next year.
Another big honor handed out was the Scholar Athlete of the Year. These awards went to Madison Hord and Ashton Ryan. Madison is a four year starter on the volleyball team and Ashton participated in both football and baseball. Both saw post season action.
Athletic Secretary Cliffa Herron was also recognized by Athletic Director Aarrhon Flores for her hard work and all the behind the scenes things she does to make athletics happen on the court and on the field.
The awards program began with Academic All-State awards. These awards went to Noah Jimenez, Alizae Morales, Eevette Perez, and Vivian Rojas in tennis and Abcde Garcia, Alexis Herrera, and Madison Hord in volleyball.
Volleyball was the first team sport awarded honors. First year Head Coach Mallorie Ellis did the honors.
Lady Cubs vollebyall went to the Regional Semi-Finals before falling to Holliday.
Deja and Tia Johnson were awarded Co-Offensive Players of the Year, and Lady Cub MVPs, Madison Hord earned District and Lady Cub Defensive MVP, Gabi Fields was named Outstanding Setter and earned the Lady Cub Leadership Award. Also named All District were Meriah Gonzales, Dabria Blackwell, and Alexis Herrera. Madison Hord was also named to the TGCA Team.
Cross Country Awards went to Joel Morales for Most Improved, Boys Fighting Heart – Seth Galindo, Girls Fighting Heart – Cassandra Campos, and Ruth Lozano – MVP.
Football awards were given out by Coach Aarrhon Flores and his staff.

Tennis honors were distributed by Head Coach Rich Hammons. Hammons has been coaching the program for 14 years. Tennis is one of the most successful programs at BHS, year in and year out. Hammons was assisted by his father Jimmy Hammons, who also assists with coaching the program.
