Everyone knows high school football is king in Texas. With that usually comes two weeks of brutal, or what used to be brutal, workouts for those who want to hit the gridiron. In Texas that means the first week in August begins the almighty, old fashion two-a-days for high school football players, and of course volleyball has their workouts too and this year will be no different.
The Brownfield Cubs open their two-a-days at mid-night (12:00 a.m.) Monday August 2, 2021. (Sunday going into Monday) This has become a tradition in recent years for several schools around the area to celebrate that football season is here. One good thing about this year’s two-a-days is the weather looks like it will be cooler than last year. The average temperature is to be around 85 degrees plus several chances of rain versus last years average was around 99 degrees and no rain.

On the volleyball side, Coach Ellis has the girls beginning their workouts on Monday Aug. 2 and will go through Thursday Aug. 5. The schedule will be the same each day. From 7 a.m. to 8 a.m. the Lady Cubs will go to Cub Stadium and run on the track. They will take a break between 8 a.m. and 10 a.m. and will begin practice from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. They will take another two hour break and come to practice from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Coach Ellis said, “I look forward to seeing their hard work during this time.”
It is definitely beginning to look like fall around here, even if the weather doesn’t look that way yet!
