BHS Grad dead as a result of Lubbock shooting

Micheal Bean, a 2018 graduate of Brownfield High School, was pronounced dead at the scene of a shooting in an apartment complex on Saturday. Also pronounced dead was 17 year-old Mia Altamirano. Two others, whose names have not been released, were taken to the hospital with serious injuries.

According to reports from the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal, Bean and the other three were in an apartment in the 2100 block of 49th Street in Lubbock around 2 a.m. on Saturday. Reports of shots fired had the Lubbock Police Department on the scene where they found the victims.

According to police reports, after interviewing witnesses, police believe two suspects went to the apartment on foot. It appeared that a verbal argument took place and at least one of the suspects fired multiple rounds from a firearm before leaving the scene.

The case remains under investigation by the Metropolitan Special Crimes Unit. They are asking for anyone who has any information to please contact Crime Line at (806) 741-1000. Callers will remain anonymous and could be eligible for a cash reward.

Michael was a well-liked young man during his years at BHS. He participated in football and basketball.

Coach Jeff Fabila stated, “Michael was a fun and loving kid. He had a passion for basketball, but most of all he loved his family and his friends.”

Teacher Dee Ann Burris stated, “He was sweet, funny and respectful. I will always remember his smile. He made others smile and laugh with his humor. Too young…so heartbreaking.”
