Gabi Fields, a Lady Cub Senior this next year, has made a verbal commitment to play basketball for the University of Northern Colorado Bears.
Gabi was a true leader on the Texas 3A State Championship Lady Cub squad. She was named MVP of the 3A State Tournament and has received numerous accolades throughout her career, with yet another year to go!
Gabi stated, “I am really excited. It has been a little different with the coach leaving WT (Gabi had previously committed to play basketball at West Texas A&M, but the head coach left and went to UNC), but I knew I when I first visited that I wanted to play for Coach Mattio and her staff, regardless of the school. I am just really grateful for all the coaches that have helped me get to this point. and And I am really grateful to the community of Brownfield that has shown us constant support.”
Her Lady Cubs Basketball Coach Michelle Wyatt stated, “We are so excited for Gabi and her commitment to UNC. She has worked hard to reach her goals and we look forward to watching her play at the next level.”
Gabi is an outstanding student and and an outstanding Christian. Her faith shows in all she does.
BISD Superintendent Chris Smith stated, “Gabi is the embodiment of what a student athlete should be. Everyone knows how great an athlete she is, but the very best thing about Gabi is that she is an amazing person. I am so proud that she is a Lady Cub. We will always support her and she will have an army of fans here.”
