BRMC Board meets to discuss employment

by Eric

The Brownfield Regional Medical Center Board of Directors met Monday evening to work a short agenda. The main topic of discussion and consideration came from the CEO’s report. CEO Jerry Jasper told the board about the lack of staffing the hospital has. Recently the Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) and Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON) position have come open, which has left Jasper to fill those positions temporarily.

According to Board member Sue Cottrell, she has been told by several nurses at BRMC the morale is up and the staff is happy even though there is a lack of staffing. Jasper also told the Board the nurses and staff have been working hard and filling in the gaps where needed, “The nurses have stepped up.” said Jasper. Also Jasper told the Board all nurses were given a raise and now the salaries are competitive with other hospitals like Covenant and UMC out of Lubbock.

jasper was asked by Board Member Brian Paiva if the OB center was open. Jasper said, “We can open it… but we don’t have the staff.” Jasper went on to say, “We have hired between four to six new nurses in the past two weeks.” Another position which needed to be filled is the Lab Director. Former Director Michael Ledesma took a position at another medical entity. Jasper told the Board that he has hired a new Lab Director which should begin the first of November.
