The Brownfield Regional Medical Center Board of Directors met on Monday, January 20th in their regularly scheduled meeting. The short agenda consisted mainly of reports, which were all accepted as presented. The Board did approve the Call for an Election item on the agenda and approved the Election Judges as presented.
There are two positions coming up for election in the May 2nd election. Sylvia Dingus and Joe Silva, who are both At-Large members will see their positions up for election. Both are eligible to file to run again. Filing is open to any eligible voter in the County and can be done at the Terry County Elections Office through February 14.
A report was given on the progress of renovation work at the hospital. BRMC CEO Jerry Jasper stated that the new boilers should be in by mid February, and the new parking lot should be completed around the first part of February. Work on the upstairs portion is coming along. The entire upstairs area is now completely gutted, according to Jasper. The downstairs work has come to a halt while the asbestos removal people work on getting the asbestos removed safely.
Flu has hit the hospital, and the community in a big way. Jasper reported the BRMC Clinic had already seen as many patients this January as they did this same month last year. “Our clinic has begun running 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. and that has really made a difference.
There was a guest at the meeting who had requested to address the board. This gentleman wanted to give the board his opinion on the hospital. “My wife was recently in the Brownfield hospital for an extended period and I cannot say enough about the quality of care we received here and continue to receive.” He compared BRMC to another hospital they had also had experience with. “Night and day difference in the quality of care,” he stated. “I know y’all mostly deal with the business side of things here but I wanted to let you know what was going on, on the personal side of it. You have a great staff here and a great hospital.”
With no further business, the meeting was adjourned. The Board will next meet on Monday, February 17 in the Board Room of BRMC. Meeting time is 6:30 p.m. and the meeting is open to the public.
