Brownfield Regional Medical Center (BRMC) continues with their remodel on the east section of the facilities. TownTalk took a tour of the building to see how far BRMC has come along.
The project began in November 2019 and has been slowed up due to the COVID-19 pandemic. “The construction was really getting underway and we were seeing progress in early 2020.” said BRMC CEO Jerry Jasper. According to Jasper, in mid-2020 there were hopes the newly renovated facility would be done between August and September of 2020. However due to the coronavirus that has not been the case.
Jasper said, “Although construction went down to a minimum, we needed to focus on the hospital side because of the pandemic.” Of course late 2020 the coronavirus hit Terry County hard and BRMC had to move around some things in order to fit as many people as possible into the hospital. Taking care of our citizens is our number one priority” said Jasper.
As 2021 approached, there became new challenges to the renovation. Because certain manufacturing was shutdown during the height of the pandemic, certain equipment was on back-order for several months. Equipment like special lighting for surgery, certain parts to the air conditioning and heating systems, flooring, and other wide ranging parts. Jasper said, “It has been a bit frustrating because we really want this renovated section opened so we can provide a much better place for our patients.”
Of course the upgrade will include the BRMC Clinic moving the new area, plus three Labor, Delivery, Recovery, and Postpartum rooms in the all new maternity unit. The remodel will also allow for a surgical suite and other areas for specialty doctors to visit.
“We are really beginning to see the light at the end of the tunnel on this project.” said Jasper. According to Jasper because the coronavirus has dropped substantially in numbers, the construction crew has been full force getting the job done. Jasper said, “We are now looking at opening the doors August 2, 2021.”
