Kids enrolled in Burleson Elementary at MISD have a great reason to keep reading those Accelerated Reading books. They earn points they can spend at the Broncoville Store.
There are three separate store locations in the hallways of Burleson. There is a nice white cabinet. There is a truck and there is a pig. Both these last two were built by the Meadow FFA Department. They all open up to display items on shelves.
The kids read their books for the whole nine-weeks. They are given points for each book read. At the end of the nine-week period, they are allowed to take their point totals to the stores and purchase items.
And we are not just talking pencils and erasers here. There are some really great things available. Footballs, basketballs, games and even Mr. and Mrs. Potato Head! You can see why they are excited.
Burleson Elementary Principal Tabitha Coffman stated, “The kids look forward to this shopping time. We let our fifth graders run the store and they help the little ones out with their math to determine exactly what they can buy. It is really fun for all the students.”
Certainly a great incentive to keep up with your reading! Way to go Burleson Elementary!
