Brownfield City Council Meets, Quick Agenda

In a regulary scheduled Brownfield City Council meeting this morning, the agenda was light. After th epreliminary items of business were taken care of, the council dug into a light and quick agenda.

The Council began with Item 5 which was to hear from Eddy Holloway, CPA about the audit report for years 2017-2018. According to Holloway, the City of Brownfield is doing very well with the way they spend money and allocate it. The City is in the positive with their accounts.

The next item was to hear and consider the racial profile report from the police department. This was tabled until next meeting when Brownfield Chief of Police Tony Serbantez will be able to be present. Chief Serbantez was involved in the “Shattered dream Project” this morning and was unable to attend the City Council meeting.

Moving on to item seven was to cancel the elections of unopposed candidates in Brownfield’s district four and the two At-Large seats. Michelle Cooper will become the Brownfield City Council District 4 representative and incumbent Chuck Nave along with Tom Hess will both be the At-Large representatives. The only Brownfield City Council contested election will be from District 5 where Isaiah Bautista and Eric Horton are competing for this seat.

Item eight was to grant advertising money from the HOT funds to be used in the Texas Hotels and Lodgers Association magazine and website. The Council unanimously approved this item.

The next item of business was to approve a “Type 2” special event application for the Hope over Dope West Texas Organization. Roman and Melissa Perez represented the organization and explained that they wanted to use the Lynn Brisendine park for the event. The Council unanimously approved the application.

The final item was to approve a change in the code of ordinances. This particular change was to show that the “Hotel/Motel Tax Revenue Oversite Board” was completely disbanded.

Council members that were present were present Rick Rocha, Tresa Sparks, Ray McFarland, Mayor Geronimo Gonzales, Mary Valdonado, & Judy Besler. Members absent, Church Nave & Leon Pope. The next council meeting is expected on April 4th, 2019 at 7:30 AM.
