Brownfield City Council Works Brief Agenda

by admin

The Brownfield City Council met in a brief meeting on Thursday, February 6th to conduct mostly routine business. All councilmen and women were present.

Judges were appointed for the upcoming May 2nd City Election. Appointed were Election Day Judge – Kathey Granger, Election Day Alternate Judge – Cynthia Jacquez, Early Voting Ballot Board Judge – Valerie Castaneda, and Early Voting Ballot Board Alternate Judge – Noni Cawthon.

The Council also placed a 90 day moratorium on the permitting of or installation and erection of signs in the City of Brownfield as authorized under Section 44 of the Zoning Ordinance. Recent developments regarding the City of Brownfield’s sign ordinance have necessitated additional research and analysis to review these ordinances and procedures. This 90 day moratorium will allow the City Attorney and city staff to study and make recommendations for consideration by the City Council.

Also discussed was the City of Brownfield Hotel Occupancy Tax Revenue fund revenue and expenditures for the 2019-2020 fiscal year. City Manager Jeff Davis explained, “Due to recent decline in the occupancy in the hotels in the City of Brownfield, revenue to the HOT Revenue Fund has declined, as well. In the 2019-2020 fiscal year budget we anticipated $213,754 in revenue to the fund. We just wanted to be sure the Council was aware of this drop in funds.” The actual amount received from 2019 HOT Funds as of January 1 was $180,993.80. (This will not be the final amount.)

The Council voted to accept City Electrical Department Supervisor Cat Gonzales’ recommendation to purchase a 42′ bucket truck for $98,082.00 from Robert Walker Grande Ford in San Antonio. This is a Versalift 2020 Ford 550 with a 4X4 chassis. There were three bids submitted and this bid was the low bid, and was also the best value for the City. No area bids were submitted.

After taking care of other routine business, the Council adjourned.

In the way of announcements, there will be an Ambulance Board Meeting on Monday, February 10th at noon in the BRMC Board Room. There will also be a USDA NRCS/SWCD local planning group meeting on Wednesday, February 12th at noon in the Prosperity Bank Conference Room. BIDCorp will meet on Monday, February 24th at 4:30 p.m. at City Hall.
