Brownfield Education Center holds graduation

Nearly 40 BEC students crossed the stage on Wednesday evening and received their BHS diplomas. This was a record number graduating.

BEC was established several years ago to help students who might otherwise drop-out stay in school and earn a diploma. Some of these are high school age, and others are kids who did quit and then decided they wanted to go back and earn a diploma. Not a GED.

One girl told of dropping out due to life issues five years ago, but she walked the stage on Thursday with a diploma in her hand.

Chris Edwards, who is Principal at BEC led the program, which included a slide show and the traditional playing of “Pomp and Circumstance,” otherwise known as “The Graduation Song.” The invocation and pledge to the American Flag were led by graduate Deelylah Garza.

The graduation was held at the BISD Auditorium and was very well attended. Diplomas were handed out by BISD Superintendent Chris Smith and members of the Board of Trustees.

One member of the class is already attending classes at South Plains College and has obtained a Real Estate License.
