One Brownfield resident, Matthew Clark, was arrested without incident Monday afternoon for felony Arson.

Clark, 22, was arrested shortly after an investigation was conducted by the Brownfield Fire Department regarding a Sunday evening mobile home fire, which occurred at a residence in the 1100 block of North Cedar.

According to BFD Fire Chief Dennis Rowe, the blaze was called in about 4:30 p.m. Sunday. He said the damage that resulted from the fire was a total loss, but wasn’t sure of the monetary cost to the homeowner. Rowe said that it appears someone started the fire with some loose bedding in one of the back bedrooms.

After the investigation, Rowe said a warrant was issued for Clark and given to the Terry County Sheriff’s Department to be served.

Terry County Sheriff Larry Gilbreath said Clark was arrested at about 6 p.m. Monday at a local restaurant and taken to the Terry County Law Enforcement Center.

Bail for Clark was set at $100,000 for the charge of Second Degree Felony Arson. He is still being held in custody.

No individuals were harmed in the fire.
