The Brownfield Police Department is reminding everyone to stay safe in this heat wave. Police Chief Tony Serbantez stated, “You can get overheated so quickly in these 100 plus degree days. Be aware of how your body is feeling and take care of yourself.”
Serbantez stated that people need to stay inside in the heat of the day as much as possible. “If you are elderly and your air conditioning is out, give us a call. We have some resources to maybe help you. This is true for anyone who finds themselves without air conditioning on these days.”
Serbantez also reminds people to not forget their pets. “If your pets are outside, be sure they have shade and plenty of fresh water. The heat affects them too.”
If you are traveling in the next few days, be sure your car is in good condition, including tires. “You can get overheated quickly sitting on the side of the road waiting for someone to help you. Always carry plenty of water for drinking, and for overheated engines,” stated Serbantez.
Just be alert and aware during these hot, hot days. Check on your elderly neighbors. Let’s take care of ourselves and each other!
