Brownfield Works! Job Fair scheduled

by admin

When news broke of the closing of the Rudd Unit Prison, Executive Director of Brownfield Industrial Development Corporation, Brian Brisendine knew something had to be done to keep people in Terry County. If they were going to stay here, they needed jobs.

Brisendine quickly got on the phone with Brownfield ISD Superintendent Chris Smith and together they developed a plan for a job fair to help those displaced with the closing of the prison, as well as others looking for work.

“We knew we had to do something keep our people here and keep our students here, so we developed the idea of a Job Fair to be held at BISD,” stated Brisendine.

Smith stated, “It is a proven fact that our students learn better when things are better at home, when they don’t have to worry from day to day about food or a place to sleep. We know that by helping Brian and BIDCorp with this Job Fair, it will in turn help our students.”

The Job Fair will be held on Wednesday, November 17 from 4 – 7 p.m. in the Brownfield Middle School Commons (formerly the BHS Commons). Everyone is invited to attend. You do not have to be a worker from the prison to attend. It is open to all who are looking for employment.

According to Brisendine, there are currently 19 businesses who have registered to participate in the Job Fair, but he expects that number to grow. “We know of others who are interested. We are just waiting to hear from them.”

Employers, if you are currently looking for employees please consider setting up at the ‘Brownfield Works! Job Fair’ on Wednesday, November 17th. All companies looking to hire from our surrounding area are welcome!
