July 2, 1962 – July 25, 2022

Bruce Emory Dorsett, 60, of Brownfield went home to be with the Lord on Monday, July 25, 2022.  A Memorial Service will be held at 3:00 pm Thursday, July 28, 2022 at Calvary Baptist Church, officiated by Brother Gail Faries and Rev. Steve Carter.  Online condolences may be left for the family at brownfieldfuneralhome.com.

Bruce was born on July 2, 1962, in Brownfield to James and Iva Joyce (Hobbs) Dorsett.  He grew up in Brownfield and graduated from BHS in 1981.  He attended Lubbock Fire Academy and served as a firefighter in Brownfield from 1988 to 2001.  He was an Engine Driver and a Captain.

Bruce, a loving father and doting grandfather, is described by his family and friends as “ornery” and “always smiling.”  His positive attitude, even through his long illness, was an encouragement to everyone he came in contact with.  Jacey is a Daddy’s Girl and remembers how her dad’s schedule with the fire department allowed him to be home a lot while she was growing up. He was a great, “Mr. Mom,” she says!  Bruce loved fast cars (especially his Trans Am) and animals.  He was also a jokester and enjoyed a good prank.

Bruce was preceded in death by his parents.  He is survived by his daughter, Jacey Soliz and her husband Luciano “Chano” of Lubbock; his grandson, Lucas James Soliz; 2 brothers, James Mark Dorsett and Steve Dale Dorsett, both of Brownfield; his niece, Darcy Stockman of Early, TX; and lastly, his precious, precocious dog, Lucy.

The family would like to give special thanks to Accent Care Home Health and the LVAD Team at UMC for their excellent care!
