The inaugural Family StoryTime at the Yoakum County Library in Plains took place on Wednesday, September 6, 20167, with many smiles.

Counting up to the number six as well as singing “Days of the Week” began the time together. Other back-to-school fun included the rhyme “Windshield Wiper” and song “The Wheels on the Bus.”

Because of the bus theme for the day, the interactive favorite “Don’t Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus!” was the first book shared. “How Will I Get to School This Year?” was the second imaginative book. Then the group boarded a real yellow bus. Special thanks to Plains ISD and the transportation director, Mike Taylor. The school bus ride gave the opportunity to the StoryTime children to experience an authentic ride. The outing also included a stop at the school for the outdoor reading of “If You Take a Mouse for School” at the elementary school’s “amphitheater.”

Those in attendance were Rhea, Sadie, Isaak, Tirzah, Ben, Brit, Ariyel, Moriah, Yochanan, & Samuel. Sadie was the winner of the door-prize drawing  and the “Good-bye Rhyme” completed the time together.

Each child received a sticker on their hand and a goodie bag as they exited the Heritage Room.

Each Wednesday during the regular school year, Family StoryTime meets at the Yoakum County Library in Plains at 10:00 am. All ages are welcome with their caregivers.
